Finding Legal Jobs in Hong Kong
You may not believe it, but finding legal jobs in Hong Kong is easy and painless, and in most cases FREE! Plenty of lawyers want to work in Hong Kong, but not everyone knows how to go about it.
Here are five things you can do today to land a great legal job in the Hong Kong SAR:
1. Submit Your CV To A Recruiter
If you are a really good lawyer (good education, good experience), believe me, there are people looking for you. You don’t even have to do anything and you can get calls for new jobs that match your interests.
How?
Just send in your CV to a legal recruiter in Hong Kong. By far the most respected and trusted of the recruiters is Hughes-Castell, but there are plenty of others. Recruiters will go over your options with you before you dive into the market.
Just be sure whoever you send your CV to, they keep it confidential until you’re ready to contact potential employers.
2. Search on eFinancialCareers
This website doesn’t focus on legal jobs in Hong Kong, so it’s often overlooked. But they do have a great selection of legal jobs in the region.
It’s best to search on this site if you’re interested in compliance or other legal position at a bank or other financial institution.
3. Networking Events
It’s surprising how many lawyers don’t use their network of people, or even look to expand their network, when looking for a job. Especially when times are tough, finding and connecting with new people can be the key to a great new career.
There are plenty of evens and conferences for lawyers in Hong Kong.
Contact publishing companies like Pacific Business Press, IFLR, and Asia Legal Business to learn more about their networking opportunities.
4. Networking Online
Just like the last tip, one of the best ways to find legal jobs in Hong Kong is to use your network of people, - but this time online.
Using LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and more to find jobs online isn’t anything new these days, but surprisingly few people do it.
Use these links to get your legal job search started:

I think your point about submitting your CV to a recruiter is critical, especially when looking for employment overseas. It also pays to use a recruitment agency that specialises in overseas recruitment. As far as I'm aware there are only a handful of Australian agencies who deal with positions available in Hong Kong:
